COMMUNITY STORIES: JOHNATHAN KANE

Whether that be in the form of murals, graffiti, or structures

Growing up, I would always stare out the car window and be mesmerized by what I saw, like a mural of three alligators off the Jones Falls Expressway, the representation of Black people in west Baltimore, and Graffiti Alley which displayed an array of pieces in the downtown.

I transferred those feelings into finding interest in creating art myself. Even today, as I move around Baltimore, I always stop to admire and take in what has been displayed.

I offer paintings, prints, and stickers based on a variety of topics I'm interested in, including black art, abstract art, mixed media, and astronomy.

Prior to this, I was always hesitant to sell my artwork because most of the art I was making was with the intention of pleasing me and no one else, so I thought no one would find interest in it.

However, my family and friends insisted that I had a gift that could be shared with the world, and that people would enjoy seeing and purchasing the artwork I created.

She purchased them for her dorm room because they did not have any, and she later told me that every time a guest came over, they all enjoyed having the artwork displayed which made me thrilled.

Through any medium and not necessarily just through making art.

I want to learn about the numerous components of starting and running a business, such as concepts, marketing, and financial management.
