LEAD WITH WHAT YOU’RE GOOD AT

Taking the bold risk of starting a business or pursuing an idea is intimidating all on its own. And that doesn’t even include the self-doubt that is present throughout most of the journey.

These are the kind of thoughts that likely discourage many from even giving it a chance.

Easier said than done? Definitely! Training your brain to think this way and turn away negative thoughts takes time.

Focus on the things that you are good at first, and let those guide your thoughts and decisions instead of worrying about everything that you are not good at.

Starting my own business was never something I considered, probably because there were skills that I felt like I lacked to be able to do it.

I was actually a Human Services Major—a study that focuses on learning about all different kinds of people, and how to interact and support them impactfully.

These natural instincts drove my decision-making every step of the way, ultimately leading to a new-found confidence in my ability to run a business.

There were definitely times where I felt imposter syndrome, but if you think about it, being an imposter would be if you started a business that you didn’t really have a passion for, or care about, right?

Instead, I let my natural qualities and skills fuel me to keep going.

Remember to always come back to what drives you, and lead with that. Don’t intimidate yourself by dwelling on the skills that you don’t have… yet. Key word there is YET because you will naturally develop all kinds of new skills along the way.

You’ll be forced to figure things out, and some of those things will scare you, but if you come back to your root “why” and what makes you, you…you can accomplish anything.
