LINDSAY’S OCTOBER LETTER: SMALL ACTIONS CREATE LASTING IMPACT
And how it has the power to bring all different kinds of people together. In high school, I didn’t necessarily have one core friend group. Instead, I preferred to make friends with ALL different kinds of people in my grade, and in other grades too! I would sit with a different group of people almost every day at lunch.
Looking back on this now, I’m sure that wasn’t the norm.
And I learned so much by surrounding myself with people who were different from me.
But at this point I was even more passionate about the idea of actually building a new kind of community, a place where people from across campus could come together to learn and support each other.
I knew that I had found my niche.
And had no clue that there were others doing the exact same thing.
I wanted to bring together people from across campus to see what these students were doing, and make a way for them to support them. I wanted to develop a space that valued supporting small, locally made, right on campus.
But, there were constant glimpses of what this community could be, and that’s what inspired me to keep going.
An idea that I was confident could bring value for so many.
It was in these small glimpses that I found my drive (not without plenty of doubt scattered in along the way) but that fear couldn't take away the proof that I was noticing all around me.
And I think that’s most clear by the number of students we’ve grown to… we’re nearing 400! Woohoo!
Even though our community is so much bigger and stronger than it was all those years ago when this idea was brand new, there is still room to grow. And that’s one of the things that I love…
I have a blast working to figure out those ways everyday.
And I have all of you to thank for that.
