COMMUNITY STORIES: CHLOE BORCHERS
We’re so excited to share our second Community Story of the semester with you! I think our whole team would agree that our favorite part about Student-Made is sharing the inspiring journeys of our incredible Creators & Managers. The unique stories and passions of this community define the very character of our Student-Made brand— and we hope you get something meaningful out of today’s story.
Hi, Student-Made Store community! I am Chloe Borchers, one of the Accounting Interns for Student-Made, and the Finance & Strategy Manager for the Appalachian State branch (Roll Neers). I am from Richmond, Virginia and I’m a junior studying Accounting.
I had genuinely no clue where I wanted to go to college when I was in high school. One of my friends told me that she thought I would really enjoy Appalachian, so I applied. It was in my top three but it wasn’t my top choice until I toured it. As soon as I stepped on campus I knew this was where I wanted to be for my next four years.
I joined the App State branch of Student-Made during my freshman year in January 2022. For my entire time I have been the Finance & Strategy manager, and have loved every minute of it. In my role, I help Creators get set up through Bill.com, ensure all Creators meet all qualifications to go live on the website, produce bimonthly Sales Reports so Creators can get paid, and analyze data through the Squarespace system. It has been so incredible to see this role grow over my time here with Student-Made. Sara (head of accounting) and the rest of the leadership team have made so many improvements and I am so thankful I’ve been a part of the process.
In May of 2023, I joined the Student-Made Store team as an Accounting Intern. In this role, I oversee the University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, Michigan State University, and the upcoming re-launch of the University of South Carolina. As an Accounting Intern, I help these schools with setting up their Creators in our accounting system and sending out invoices for involvement fees when applicable. I also process the bimonthly Sales Reports provided by the Finance & Strategy managers at the schools I oversee, and set up the payments in Quickbooks for Sara to then send out.
This internship has been such an incredible experience so far. I have learned so much from Sara, and collaborating with other campuses and managers has been amazing! It has been such a joy to see this program grow in so many ways, and I am so excited to watch Student-Made Store grow across the country.
From the finance side, we have made incredible strides in the last year and I know this is only the beginning. I see this program continuing to expand and reach so many college students. I will definitely take this experience with me after graduation and into the workforce– and I can even see the effects of this program in my classes now. I can apply what I have learned through Student-Made into my accounting classes, which is amazing. I also did an Accounting internship this past summer where I was able to apply so much of what I learned here to that job.
This program has helped me prepare for life in the business world in ways I never thought possible, and I am unbelievably grateful for my time with Student-Made Store. I can’t wait to see all our campuses continue to flourish!
